Celebrate community, local history, artisan makers and family fun at this FREE, museum-wide opening season event, sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Carefree!

From our newly renovated front porch entrance and Veterans Memory Garden to the old gazebo, there are memories to uncover and stories to tell about our region’s rich heritage.

Nanny Nikki’s Imagination Station: Drop by the museum’s History Wing to meet Nanny Nikki! You’ll find her set up right by the massive model of Black Mountain, surrounded by exhibits honoring the region’s history-makers: miners, military, ranchers, “lungers,” and early tourists.

Blacksmithing: Head outside to the Blacksmith Shed! Join our community partner, Desert Rat Forge, and resident artisan “Dief” for live demonstrations and ongoing “branding” activities.

WWI “Silks” Textile Postcards: Step inside the historic Cave Creek Church—the exact spot where the museum first opened its doors in April 1970. Collector Sue Palmer will showcase her rare, personal collection of fabric postcards made in France during
World War I as a way to keep our soldiers connected to their families.

At The Old Gazebo: During the 1970s, small-town bandstands sparked a nostalgic revival as focal points for identity and gathering. This event honors that beautiful tradition, inviting you to slow down, gather together, and celebrate the enduring spirit of the Cave Creek Mining District. Kick back, enjoy live musical interludes and help us fill our “Memory Jar!” Share your favorite recollections of our “Old Gazebo” Bandshell, which stood proudly at Neary’s Village Square (Cave Creek Rd and Hidden Valley Drive) before moving to the museum grounds in 1991.
