SUMMARY:The Arizona Gold Mining Experience™
DESCRIPTION:Museum opens at 9.00 am for event check-in\, The ARIZONA GOLD MINING EXPERIENCE™ begins at 10:00 am. \nThe Cave Creek Museum’s AZ GOLD MINING EXPERIENCE™ is unique with its display of the complete hard rock ore extraction process\, with the mine shaft\, tramway\, ore carts\, crushing and extraction\, that are always on display\, but operated on 2nd Saturdays. The highlight is Arizona’s only fully operational ten-stamp ore crushing mill. The ten 1\,000-lb stamps slam down in synchronized motion to pound the ore removed from the mine into a fine gravel. The stamp mill was brought from its former location at the Golden Reef Mine on Continental Mountain to where it sits today. This is the only operational mining stamp mill in Arizona today that sits only 5 miles from its original site on the mountain.   \nThe program begins with a lively recounting of Cave Creek Mining District’s heyday\, followed by a visit to the arrastre\, a primitive apparatus that pulverized ore with the power of beast or man. Hold onto your hats when the old mine blows its top! Then onto the Golden Reef Stamp Mill and Tramway\, where our highly trained and dedicated “Dream Team” fires up the engines of the stamp mill and once again the mountainsides echo with the crashing beat of the mechanical crusher. Watch as the tramway carries ore to be pulverized! \nThen onto the Blacksmith Shop for a demonstration of skill that was highly valued in a time where parts and tools had to be fabricated on site. Next be sure to try your luck at our Gold-panning station\, where docents will show you how to pan for ore and minerals just like the old prospectors did. Maybe you’ll strike gold! \n \nRemember\, your admission ($15 for guests 13 yrs and up\, children 12 yrs and under are free**) is also good for a leisurely tour of the Museum’s Historical and Archaeology collections and be sure to visit our other Outdoor Exhibits: the collection of many other articles from Cave Creek’s mining and agricultural past\, the Historic First Church\, and our TB Cabin\, which is on the National Register of Historic Places as the only known existing tubercular cabin from that era. \nRound off your day with the Gold Fever Adventure Package — Click here for more details. \nGet ready to travel back in Time! \nNote: this program is approximately 1 hr and 15 minutes long and largely takes place in the Outside Exhibit Area. It is not ADA compliant. Footing is uneven and slightly hilly in places. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sunscreen! \n**Due to the popularity of The AZ GOLD MINING EXPERIENCE™\, tickets must be pre-purchased. No Membership Discounts. Culture Passes will not be accepted for this event. \nxProduct()

SUMMARY:Cave Creek Museum Presents: German Prisoners of War in Arizona
DESCRIPTION:Although his “day job” is chief archivist at the celebrated Huhugam Ki Museum at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community\, author Steve Hoza has long been fascinated by the history of the German prisoner-of-war camps that were established across the State of Arizona.  One was sprawled at the base of the Papago Buttes. From 1944 through the end of the war\, that particular encampment housed 2\,500 P.O.W.s and was even the site of a “Great Escape”\, when 25 of the prisoners tunneled out of the fenced camp — and most were promptly recaptured. Steve Hoza spent years interviewing former P.O.W.s\, the American soldiers who guarded them\, and the citizens who lived nearby.  In their own words and with dozens of historic photos\, Steve will share the story of the Arizona P.O.W. camps. \nAdmission is $10\, including an all-day Museum pass.  (No discounts or Culture Passes will be honored.)  FREE for members; advance reservations are required.

The ten 1\,000 lb stamps slam down in synchronized motion to pound the ore removed from the mine into a fine gravel. \nRound off your day with the Gold Fever Adventure Package — Click here for more info.

SUMMARY:Cave Creek Museum Presents: Story of the Unknown Soldier
DESCRIPTION:Matthew Scott reprises his presentation of how the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery was created\, including the selection of the fallen soldier from the battlefields of France was chosen to represent all our fallen military. \nIt is hard to describe how moving this story is as he describes the emotion-wrenching process as well as the pomp and ceremony that accompanied the soldier’s reunification with his homeland and interment in the crypt at Arlington National Cemetery.  Matthew’s research includes the use of a report documented by his grandfather\, who was a clerk in the Cemetery Division of the Department of War\, and who was directed to document the details of the ceremony in France and the burial in Arlington in November of 1921. \nIs it enough to say that this story was the catalyst for the Veterans’ Memory Garden?  Visit https://cavecreekmuseum.org/veterans-memory-garden-at-the-cave-creek-museum-1/ to see details on this project.  You may also make a financial or “in-kind” contribution to support this project. \nAdmission is $10\, including an all-day Museum pass.  (No discounts or Culture Passes will be honored.)  FREE for members; advance registration is required. \nxProduct()

\nRound off your day with the Gold Fever Adventure Package — Click here for more info. \nGet ready to travel back in Time!\nNote: this program is approximately 1 hr and 15 minutes long and largely takes place in the Outside Exhibit Area.

SUMMARY:The Arizona Gold Mining Experience™
DESCRIPTION:SPECIAL HOURS!!!  Museum opens at 9:00 am for event check-in\, The ARIZONA GOLD MINING EXPERIENCE™ begins at 10:00 am. The ten 1\,000 lb stamps slam down in synchronized motion to pound the ore removed from the mine into a fine gravel.
