Museum Director

Job Opportunity: Museum Director for Historical Museum

About Us: We are a 53-year-old museum, brimming with the vibrant energy of a teenager. Our dedicated team comprises over 100 active volunteers and an engaged Board. Exciting growth plans lie ahead, and we’re seeking a dynamic leader to transform our vision into reality.

Position Overview: This is no ordinary “sit in your office” role. As our Museum Director, you’ll be the face of our museum, fostering connections within the community, spearheading fundraising efforts, and laying the groundwork for executing our recently completed 3-year Strategic Plan. While day-to-day tasks are handled by our capable administrator, your mission is to breathe life into our vision.

  • Community Building: Forge strong relationships with local stakeholders, businesses, and cultural organizations. Be the bridge that connects our museum to the heart of the community.
  • Fundraising: Tap into your expertise to secure funding for our nonprofit organization. Your successful track record in navigating funding sources will be invaluable.
  • Strategic Execution: Translate our Strategic Plan into action. Develop the necessary infrastructure, collaborate with partners, and drive impactful initiatives.
  • Leadership: Showcase your leadership history—inspire, motivate, and guide our team toward shared goals.
  • Passion for Preservation: Our town’s history is steeped in the Western frontier—miners, stockmen, and homesteaders. We value this heritage, and we’re seeking someone who shares our passion for preserving it.

  • Nonprofit Fundraising Experience: Navigating the funding landscape is second nature to you.
  • Proven Leadership: Demonstrate your ability to lead and inspire. Your track record matters more than formal titles.
  • Community Savvy: You thrive on building relationships. Your network is your superpower.
  • Historical Appreciation: Your love for the West and history is contagious.

Why Join Us?

  • Impact: Shape the narrative of our town’s history.
  • Collaboration: Work alongside passionate volunteers and a supportive Board.
  • Growth: Be part of our exciting journey as we expand and evolve.
  • Location: Our town, just 30 minutes from Phoenix, offers the best of both worlds: historical roots and proximity to urban life.

  • Salary starting at $65,000 to $70,000/year.
  • HSA provided.
  • Vacation and personal days.
  • Flexibility in workplace arrangements as approved by the Board of Directors.
