Cave Creek Museum Presents: Adult Discovery Series
The Cave Creek Museum is excited to host award-winning journalist, historian and Carefree resident, Robert A. Kittle to the Museum to share insights into his recently published book, Franciscan Frontiersmen.
Pious and scholarly, the Franciscan Friars may seem at first improbable heroes. Yet starting with a harrowing transatlantic voyage, all three traveled through uncharted lands and found themselves beset by raiding Indians, marauding bears, starvation, and scurvy. Along the way, they made invaluable notes on indigenous peoples, flora and fauna and prominent 18th century European figures. Their adventures led them across the highlands of Mexico, the deserts of the American Southwest and coastal California. Drawing upon the diaries and correspondence of the three friars as well as his own exhaustive field research, Bob Kittle has written a book that is detailed and scholarly, but also a fascinating narrative of these three men, sharing adventures and exploits to rival other better known European explorers.
Author-signed copies of Franciscan Frontiersmen will be available for purchase at the event.
